The Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that they have added an additional award to their display in the Lannom Center.
The Chamber submitted information on the “Shoot Dyer County” Photo Contest for the 2008 ACE Awards for Communications Excellence sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).
ACCE holds the competition annually for Chambers and organizations across the nation as a means of recognizing best practices in several areas of communications.
The “Shoot Dyer County” Photo Contest came about as a result of a combined effort by the Dyer County Photo Club and the Chamber of Commerce. “The Photo Club developed the idea of a local contest to showcase our community and partnered with the Chamber to utilize the submitted photos in various venues,” stated Jeff Roush, President of the Photo Club. “The Photo Club allows the Chamber unlimited access to the photos for use in community promotional materials such as the new tourism brochure, Destination Dyersburg/Dyer County magazine, and the web site,” Roush continued.
A total of 90 entries were submitted for the ACE competition and the Chamber, once again, ranked at the top with larger Chambers such as Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Detroit, Hilton Head and Fort Worth.
“We have shown that our Chamber has the capability and talent to compete and win against Chambers who have a much larger staff, budget and resources at their disposal,” stated Chamber President/CEO, Allen Hester.
Entries in the photo contest were used by the Chamber as the theme and decorations at the Annual Membership Banquet featuring the 2008 Awards Presentations in January of 2009and one entry was selected to grace the cover for the 2009 issue of Destination Dyersburg/Dyer County. The cover photo, showing the covered bridge in Trimble, was taken by Sheila Taylor.
This is the 11th Award received by ACCE since 2002 in various categories, including the Chamber’s membership campaigns, 12 @ 12 monthly luncheon, sponsorship package deals, web site, McIver’s Bluff Fall Festival and Mid-South Motorcycle Rally, the 25th Annual Golf Tournament, and “Think Outside the Smog” advertisements.
