The Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Dyer County Adult Leadership program. Now in its 27th year, the Adult Leadership Program is a nine-month course designed to enhance the participant’s awareness of our community and its needs by examining how leadership in Industry, Education, Healthcare, Law Enforcement, Agriculture, Government and cultural segments work together to perpetuate and advance the community and its citizens.

Since 1987, the Chamber’s Leadership program has provided local leaders with the resources and education to further their careers and become more beneficial to their employers, as well as, their community. One aspect of the program that creates awareness and connects leaders with current issues the Nashville Legislative Session in which class members spend two days in Nashville learning about the legislative process and meeting with State leaders including the Governor.

Steve Guttery, Director of Downtown Development and Dyer County Leadership for the Chamber said, “Somewhere between our team building weekend at Camp Mack Morris and graduation, most every leadership class member will not only discover new leadership skills but may realize they have leadership skills they’ve been using all along. Employers may see something they don’t see within themselves and by encouraging and supporting their participation in the program, they enhance the skills they have or discover a new set of skills.”

One of the most rewarding and meaningful experiences is the class project. Class members must complete a worthwhile project to benefit the community. The class of 2013-2014 recently completed a remodeling project in one of the youth classrooms at the New Life Union Mission; leaders also purchased a new television for the classroom. Past projects include the walking track at Okeena Park, a portion of the WWII Monument on the Square, the creation of the Youth Leadership Program and planting of trees at the new Fifth Consolidated School.

Applicants must apply for Dyer County Leadership by no later than September 30th. Applications are available at the Lannom Center or online here. Leadership Alumni offers two matching scholarships and eligibility is based on several factors.
